The halls of Mandos by ralphdamiani The halls of Mandos by ralphdamiani
"But Luthien came to the Halls of Mandos, where are the appointed places of the Eldalie, beyond the mansions of the West upon the confines of the world. There those that wait sit in the shadow of their thought."
Based on the works of J.R.R.Tolkien

Wonderful piece, you managed to create a great atmosphere at once solemn and mysterious very fitting for the halls of mandos.
Love the composition and contrast with the subtle redish tones before Namo's throne it really leads the viewer's eye through the whole scene.
In anyways great work thanks for sharing! :D

Just the perfect shade of bluish dimness that leaves plenty of room for the viewer's imagination regarding the rest of the place of the dead, as no painting can show you everything. Portraying the dead as the translucent, shadowy figures is excellent. I always imagined them to have a form...
This is beautiful, Ralfdamiani. Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us! I love the sense of being underground, when I look at this work of yours.

Bem bacana! Gostei da sutileza de manter os valores próximos e alterar a temperatura para gerar contraponto.

This is fantastic vision, dreamlike and timeless, with a bit of underwater feel. Fits the Hallls of Mandos perfectly.
I love the addition of the figures on sides, too, ancient India inspiration?

Yes, indeed. Keeping up with the huge statues theme I used for Taniquetil, in another painting.
Thanks for the kind comments! :)

That's how I pictured it. :) There aren't many descriptions of it, as far as I know.

Its dark and yet it has a beauty to it as well.

What's striking to me is the long line of souls streaming toward Namo for judgment.

Yes, I suppose it's probably darker and more reminiscent of the greek underworld than Tolkien would have liked, but I still tried to add some eerie beauty to it.
I wish I had more room to fit Vaire's tapestry into this, but I couldn't do it any justice without cluttering the composition. That alone should be interesting enough for another painting.

I was thinking that this was the judgment hall where souls first arrive.

After their judgment they go to the more decorated halls.
