Across Middle-Earth - Khazad-Dum

Part II of my series inspired by Lord of the Rings Online. This one is actually a step back in the journey, since I kept struggling with it. The bottom line is that Moria is too dark a place for good paintings. They end up not reading too well and that makes my job much harder when I have to rely on magic light sources in order to illuminate such huge interiors. The designers at Turbine (and Weta) probably faced the same challenge and the result isn't very true to Tolkien when you think about it. But since I didn't want to skip Moria entirely, this is the best I could do.

I'm toying with the possibility of opening a Patreon page. I would be covering my workflow to produce these landscapes, and I would probably keep it centered on Tolkien illustrations and other fantasy stuff. Other than the demos, mentoring, critiquing and paintovers are also a possibility. Would anyone be interested in that? Please drop me a note. If there is enough demand, I will work out the details and make it happen.
